NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The summer installment of the art showcase at Nashville International Airport (BNA) opens June 12 and runs through September 3. The exhibit is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s (MNAA) Arts at the Airport program.

Each season, the Flying Solo series offers gifted local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work at BNA. Summer 2012 Flying Solo series artists include a communitysupported art program from Seed Space and Lindsey Bailey and the Moves & Grooves dance company. This season’s exhibit also includes a special selection of artworks by MNAA employees in honor of Nashville International Airport’s 75th anniversary.

“The Arts at the Airport’s Flying Solo exhibits are a great way to introduce the airport’s passengers, business partners and employees to the culture and feel of local and regional artists,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. “We hope these exhibits continue to provide a great Nashville Airports Experience to our customers and all employees on the airport.”

EXHIBITS:
Seed Space’s CSA (Community Supported Art)
Art Case at Concourse A/B Meeter-Greeter Area
June 12 – Sept. 3, 2012
The community-supported art (CSArt) program is a yearly art subscription service of original, limited-edition artwork produced by nationally and internationally exhibited Nashville-based artists. CSArt is managed by Seed Space, Nashville’s lab for artists, writers and curators. Much like community-supported agriculture, in which shareholders invest in a local farm and receive a monthly payout of fresh fruits and vegetables, CSArt allows shareholders to invest directly in the arts at a reasonable price. The CSArt exhibit shows a selection of available CSArtworks.

CSArtists include Vesna Pavlović, Derek Coté, Nicole Baumann, Mike Calway-Fagen, Emily Leonard, Sher Fick, Ryan Hogan, Lesley Patterson-Marx, Jodi Hays and Herb Williams. CSArt contributes to the local economy and supports cultural capital by commissioning artists and developing new local art collectors. CSArt shares can be purchased online at www.seedspace.org. Shares can be shipped outside Nashville.

Follow The Leader, a collaborative art project featuring the work of community artist
Lindsey Bailey and Moves & Grooves dance company
Art Case at Concourse C/D Meeter-Greeter Areas
June 12 – Sept. 3, 2012
Moves & Grooves, Inc. and artist Lindsey Bailey collaborate to present an arts integration-focused theatrical display. Combining video, dance, math, science, craftbased arts and the celebration of young people, this project encourages airport patrons and viewers to participate in an interactive dance piece.

A live performance and artist talk further demonstrates the collaborative work, enabling the young people involved with this project to connect the public in their work and help to define arts integration through action.

“In my artwork, I try to evoke the same sense of enthusiasm and liveliness that one observes when children discover and interact with new things,” Bailey said. “Imagination, wonder, and invention are the driving force behind my work, integral to my process is building relationships and collective collaboration.”

Moves & Grooves is a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the lives of young people through arts, academics, character development, fitness and nutrition education.
