As a part of the 25th anniversary celebration for Arts at the Airport (AaA), more than 50 pieces of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s (MNAA) permanent art collection will be shared with Nashville residents as a part of the prestigious Metro Library Art Exhibit Program. The exhibit, entitled First Flight Out: Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Shares Its Corporate Art Collection, showcases selected pieces that represent the entire body of work. This will be the first time that the MNAA and AaA have traveled pieces from the collection to a community exhibit.

From 1988 through 1990, the AaA program played a major role in the review and recommendation for art acquisition for the MNAA. The permanent collection includes 245 artworks in various styles and media, including painting, sculpture, photography, stained glass, printmaking and mixed media on paper. The collection was formed to spotlight contemporary Tennessee artists, including some of the state's most acclaimed creators.  The collection was funded by setting aside a percentage of construction funds that were dedicated for the newly constructed Nashville Airport terminal facility which opened in 1987. This was a precursor for the program now known at the 1% for Public Art Program utilized by many cities and airports across the nation (including Nashville).
