Lauren Kussro is an artist and teacher currently employed as both faculty and a printmaking technician for the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis. She attended Herron School of Art and Design where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Painting and Printmaking in 2003. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for graduate school, and received her Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in Printmaking in 2006. She has had recent solo exhibitions at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tenn.

To create a visual aesthetic that showcases the beautiful, it is important for Kussro to create a lush sensory richness, both for herself as she makes the work and for the viewer who experiences the work. By maintaining intricate visual and tactile details while using varying combinations of paper, wood, thread, beads, resin and wax, she gives the viewer a lot of texture to explore visually. Although the objects she creates are rarely
intended to be realistic copies of objects from nature, references to roots, flowers, coral, barnacles, cells and fungi can be recognized within the work.

Arts at the Airport receives funding for the visual arts from the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) and the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). The Flying Solo Exhibition Series is funded under an agreement with TAC. For more information about Arts at the Airport, please call (615) 275-1614 or send email to arts@nashintl.com.
