Artist Statement

“The pieces are made with stoneware clay that has impurities. When fired, these impurities show as black specks on the surface. I chose this clay body because the color adds warmth and the black specks give a dilapidated look. The additional hues come from oxides and colored slips. Most of the pieces also have steel or brass nails fired into the clay.”
