  Elizabeth Mask - Ticketing Level

The mixed media paintings in Liz Mask's Flying Solo installation are inspired by the natural world surrounding her home in Tennessee’s Highland Rim. She lives under a canopy of deciduous trees, which includes the majestic Tulip Poplar - the state tree of Tennessee. This environment becomes the material for her paintings, which begin as ink drawings. The work hints at themes of rebirth and regeneration.

Mask is currently the Visual Arts Chair at the University School of Nashville. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Memphis College of Art and her Masters of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from the University of Georgia. For many years, she owned the Memphis-based architectural glass design firm Gayoso Glassworks, producing major commissions for Memphis International Airport, the Grand Hotel in Waltham, MA, and Perkins Restaurants, among others. Her works have been featured in exhibitions at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects in Memphis, the Museum of the University of Memphis, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
