Gary Oglander has been painting and showing his work for 30 years, with pieces in numerous corporate and private collections, including HCA and the permanent collection of the Tennessee State Museum. Gary teaches painting in his home studio and his company, ArtWorks, offers corporate collaborative painting events. His paintings are represented in Nashville by the Tinney Contemporary Gallery.

"The piece I will show is the largest piece I've ever created. It is acrylic on canvas and measures 18’ x 6’. Before beginning, I thought about it for a long time. What did I want to convey? I wanted the piece to be spontaneous and full of life and movement. I hoped that travelers might feel attracted to the painting and stop a moment to engage themselves in the work. They might ask their children, ‘What do you see? How does it make you feel? Do you like it?’ Hopefully they come away from the painting with a good feeling and a closer connection to contemporary art."

  Artist Statement
“Colors and shapes of nature direct my marks and composition. The work conveys this in a spontaneous organic way. I love the physical act of painting and the laying down of color and texture. There is a moment of magic when this combination of elements becomes visually compelling. I then let the painting direct my actions. I'm moved by location, weather and my general perspectives of the world around me."
