John Hung Ha was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. After attending Hillsboro High School in Nashville, TN, followed by studies in Graphic Design at Memphis College of Art, John received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design with an emphasis in printmaking.
Hung Ha's images are created by manipulating multi-geometric color patterns to imply space and pattern which can be seen in Op art and Asian art. His work is exhibited widely in Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; Providence, RI; Hilton Head, SC; and Nashville, TN. There is no shortage of energy when it comes to Hung Ha's experiences and methods of bridging his Eastern style of painting with Western culture. |

Artist Statement
"I am fascinated with art as a visual equivalent to energy. I want my finished pieces to act as an arena for visual activity. I transfer my internal energy through the brush to the canvas highlighting the intricacy, spontanaity, and fluidity of my Asian-themed representations. My rhythmic work includes i-media prints to multimedia decoupage paintings made of oils, acrylics, enamels, hand cut stencils, interference paint and epoxy resins." |
