  Libby Rowe - Obscured Views
Fine Dining Area

Libby Rowe was born and raised in the Midwest. Her work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States. Rowe earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from the University of Northern Iowa and her Master of Fine Arts in photography from Syracuse University. She recently relocated to Nashville, TN, where she is part of the Fine Arts program in photography at Vanderbilt University.

In Obscured Views, Libby Rowe retraces the travels of her youth along the back roads with her parents and siblings, in a barely air conditioned gas-guzzler. Rowe appeals to the viewer through our wishes to capture the wonders of our country, only later to realize we did not get the “postcard image” we had imagined.

  Artist Statement
“During my travels I noticed the tourists walk to the edge of the viewing platform, pull their point-and-shoot camera out, shoot, and turn around bound for the next Kodak moment. These images document and celebrate that which is obscured through human interference and experience.”
