Artist Statement
“In the piece, Divided, I explore how I have observed local family farms and acres of forest being engulfed by shopping malls and housing communities. I believe that artists draw attention to old ideas in new ways. This is old land. I find it difficult not to reflect on the relationship our ancestors had with the land. I am not a conservationist, urban planner or environmental scientist by profession, but I hope to contribute in some way to the awareness that we are connected to the Earth. It is my hope that we continue to question our human role as stewards of the land and that we strive to nurture it for our descendants.”
