Rachel Kirk, a native Tennessean, received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Austin Peay State University where she currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Art. It isn’t easy to classify her artwork according to any specific style or subject matter, as each new series of drawings or paintings she produces is different than the previous ones. Her work tends to be autobiographical in nature and her materials of choice usually include graphite or charcoal on paper, with the occasional splash of acrylic color.

  Artist Statement
“As a 4'10'' female, I see the world from a different vantage point than most of the adult population and I have grown tolerant and expectant of others to tower over me and literally talk down to me as they would to a child. These drawings are altered self-portraits – in them, I am reversing roles to become the aggressor/intimidator so that the viewer experiences a one-on-one confrontation with me as I tower over them.”
