For the past 35 years, Walt Stricklin has worked as a photo-journalist. He has received many awards, including being a finalist for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. Since 1998, he has been a director of photography for The Birmingham News.
“In 2008, I realized it had been too long since I had shot pictures just to satisfy myself. I wanted something different, something challenging and something with which I could connect artistically. Also, finding a way to go outside the traditional 35mm frame had always intrigued me.”
“My ‘scapes’ are two-dimensional sculptures that are preconceived, digitally handcrafted and not stitched or blended by a computer program. I am not looking for perfection in their assembly. I leave the imperfections to celebrate both my humanity and the enjoyment of discovery.”
