Mike Fink, a noted graphic designer, is exhibiting a collection of posters designed from 1997 to 2003 for the Roxy Regional Theatre in Clarksville,TN. Housed in a 1947 modern-art theatre, the Roxy is Clarksville’s oldest professional theatre, offering patrons a combination of professional company shows and community productions.
Fink says about the posters, “They are, for the most part, visual expressions (gestures), created on a limited budget, with a very tight time restraint. I’ve found that working under these conditions has been very beneficial in developing ideas that require simplicity with a strong visual impact. Overworking an idea has never been an option.”
Fink received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, CA in 1977, and took a staff position at the prestigious Hollywood design firm Rod Dyer Inc. immediately after graduation. In 1979, he opened his own studio, x height, which specialized in entertainment graphics for the music and movie industries, book and magazine design, and corporate identities. His work has won numerous awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, American Center of Design, and the Art Directors’ Clubs of Los Angeles and New York, as well as the highly prestigious James Beard Award for restaurant graphics that he produced for The Double A restaurant in Santa Fe, NM. He moved to Tennessee with his family in 1995 after living and working in Los Angeles since 1973. The majority of work for his Clarksville studio, ilevel, is still generated by his Los Angeles clients.
