MNAA Director Honored at Airport Business Diversity Conference
Amber Gooding, director of Business Diversity Development for the MNAA, has received the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) Award of the Organization. The award was presented to Gooding at AMAC’s Airport Business Diversity Conference in New Orleans on June 22.

Gooding received this distinguished award based on her contributions to the MNAA that have helped AMAC to achieve its mission and goals through her work in aiding in the growth and development of airport diversity.

“We are proud to announce that Amber Gooding received the AMAC award. The award is well-deserved, and Amber has worked with the MNAA team to accomplish our goal of sustaining diversity in contracting with the airports,” said Raul Regalado, MNAA president and CEO.

Gooding is responsible for administering MNAA’s federally mandated disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) program and its voluntary local small, minority- and woman-owned business enterprise (SMWBE) program. Gooding also serves as a networking resource and liaison to provide the maximum opportunities for large and small companies to participate in contracting with the Authority’s two airports, Nashville International Airport and John C. Tune Airport.

A Memphis native, Gooding has previously served as the executive director for the Tennessee Human Rights Commission and a special assistant on urban affairs to the governor. She has also worked for The Regional Medical Center, Horizon Medical Management and Methodist Health System. Gooding is also a member of multiple community boards and organizations, including serving as board chairwoman for the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce and the Women’s Foundation.

Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Lauded for Excellence in Financial Reporting
MNAA has again been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2009 comprehensive annual financial report, or CAFR. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is a national award, recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports.

“One of the MNAA’s core values is to be enterprising. Our CAFR underscores our commitment to have an entrepreneurial mindset that emphasizes innovation and financial efficiency while delivering the Nashville Airports Experience to passengers and partners,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the MNAA.

The MNAA is a multi-year winner of this award, having received it 11 years, including the past nine consecutive years.

A copy of the MNAA’s 2009 CAFR is available online at http://flynashville.com/about/pdfs/CAFR09web.pdf.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government entity must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report, whose contents conform to program standards. Such reports must satisfy both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable legal requirements.

The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which include demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Ill., and Washington, D.C.
