Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority President and CEO Appointed to Aviation Advisory Committee by U.S. Transportation Secretary
Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, was appointed to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Future of Aviation Advisory Committee.
Regalado is the only Tennessean on the committee and one of only three airport executives among the 18 appointees.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the appointments to the new committee, which was established in March of this year to provide advice, information and recommendations to the Secretary on the future of the aviation industry in America.
“It’s an honor to be selected by Secretary LaHood to serve on this committee,” said Regalado. “The MNAA has had many successes in the time that I have been here, and I have learned many lessons here and throughout my 38-year airport career. I look forward to bringing our best practices to the table as I join other industry leaders in this important dialogue.”
Primarily, the committee will focus on five issues: ensuring aviation safety, ensuring a world-class aviation work force, balancing the industry’s competitiveness and viability, securing stable funding for aviation systems, and addressing environmental challenges and solutions.
Regalado Joins MTSU Aerospace Council
MNAA President and CEO Raul Regalado has accepted Middle Tennessee State University’s invitation to join its new Department of Aerospace Advisory Council.
The goal of the advisory council is to guide MTSU’s Department of Aerospace, including:
- Assisting the aerospace department in developing and implementing long-term goals,
- Offering advice on major issues,
- Helping the aerospace department provide the best-quality education for its students and support for faculty and staff development,
- Being advocates for the department, and
- Financially supporting the department.
Nashville Airport Authority Promotes Rebecca Ramsey to Assistant Director of Properties
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) recently promoted Rebecca Ramsey, formerly manager of Properties, to the position of assistant director of Properties.
“Rebecca’s creativity and commitment to providing superior concession options and facilities are evident in her accomplishments,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the MNAA. “This promotion recognizes her outstanding efforts and her significant role in the MNAA team’s collective efforts to provide the Nashville Airports Experience to our passengers, partners and employees.”
Ramsey has worked for the MNAA since 1992. As assistant director of Properties, she is responsible for overseeing the development and management of the commercial program, including food and beverage, retail, all other services, and rental cars. Most recently, she coordinated the implementation of BNA’s new concession redevelopment program with award-winning results. Additionally, she supervises staff and oversees their development and management of those areas beyond the non-airline commercial program that include ground leases, airline agreements and other aviation-related services.
Ramsey serves on the Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) Commercial Management Committee and chairs the Concessions Benchmarking Working Group for that committee. Ramsey is a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives.
Ramsey holds a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
Nashville Airport Authority Promotes Mike Hasselbrink and Thomas Quarles to Captain
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority recently promoted Mike Hasselbrink and Thomas Quarles, both formerly lieutenants in the Department of Public Safety, to the position of captain of Public Safety.
“Mike and Thomas continue to share their strengths and talents to benefit the Department of Public Safety’s operations and safety and security of the Airport Authority’s facilities and services,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the MNAA. “These promotions reflect their longtime commitment to provide the Nashville Airports Experience to our passengers, partners, and employees.”
Hasselbrink Hasselbrink joined the MNAA in 1985. In his former role as a lieutenant, he was responsible for overseeing the Special Services Division which includes all airport security measures, dignitary protection, and accreditation. Hasselbrink holds an associate’s degree in Police Science and a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Austin Peay State University, as well as a master’s degree in Public Management from Cumberland University. In 1998, Hasselbrink was promoted to sergeant and worked in varying positions throughout the department where he received the Field Training Officer of The Year Award. In 2003, Hasselbrink was promoted to lieutenant and attended Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command School. Hasselbrink served as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force. He currently serves on the ITT Technical Institute’s Advisory Board.
Quarles Quarles joined the MNAA in 1997. In his previous role as a lieutenant, he served as a shift commander where he was responsible for scheduling, training, supervising and overseeing career development and leadership of assigned staff. Additionally, he provided command-level direction for the shift, including serving as command in emergency situations. Quarles also helped develop and support both short- and long-range goals of the MNAA’s Public Safety Department. Quarles was recognized as Field Training Officer of the Year in 2003 and 2004 and received the U.S. Attorney’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement in 2005.
Quarles earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in Public Services Management from Cumberland University. He is also a member of Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety, Police Staff and Command, Class #215 and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Nashville Alumni Chapter.
Nashville Airport Authority Creates Executive Vice President and COO Role
MNAA recently created the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer (EVP and COO). Monty Burgess, who was formerly senior vice president and COO, assumed this role July 1. In this capacity, Burgess has oversight responsibility for Operations and Maintenance, Public Safety, Community Affairs and Customer Service, Finance, Purchasing, Treasury, Accounting, Information Technology, MNAA Properties Corporation, Business Development, Properties, Planning, Design, and Construction. Additionally, Burgess also has oversight responsibility for the Enterprise Risk Management and Sustainability Management functions, as well as Continuous Improvement.
“This new position is a result of our continuing effort to make this organization more effective and to maximize the use of our senior leadership strengths,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the MNAA. “Monty’s leadership and experience play a vital role in delivering the Nashville Airports Experience (NAE) to our passengers and partners.”
In 2002, Burgess joined the MNAA staff from St. Petersburg, Fla., where he served as the airport director. Previously, Burgess served as the airport executive director of the Montgomery Airport Authority and as the director of Aviation at the Mobile Airport Authority. His airport experience also includes the Birmingham Municipal Airport, the Albuquerque International Airport and the Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority.
Burgess has more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry following six years of service in the U.S. Army. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Troy State University and a bachelor’s degree in science from Auburn University. Burgess is an Accredited Airport Executive – a professional accreditation from the American Association of Airport Executives.
