Duncan McDaniel graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Painting. Since then, he has embarked on a creative journey through the exploration of his own personal aesthetic and how it spontaneously influences his interpretation of the world around him. Ranging from oil paintings, drawings, public art and site specific installations, his techniques are varied and whimsical. Through these multiple avenues, McDaniel is always searching for the better artist within himself. This open-ended journey always leads him somewhere new and uncharted, and hopefully with a plethora of exciting objects and images to show for along the way.

About Across the Clouds
“A tin can or ‘lover’s telephone’ is a centuries old device using two tin cans attached to either end of a taut string or wire. This sculpture is based on the experience of having a relationship across the Atlantic Ocean that would have been impossible without modern communication. I met my wife when she temporarily traveled to Nashville from England to install a light-based art exhibit. Spending months apart, we maintained a relationship via video chat, talking for hours as if we were in the same room. During the long periods of separation, I was so thankful to live in a world with the internet acting as an invisible thread connecting us across the clouds.”
