Matthew Parker is a native Washingtonian where he lives and works as an architect and an artist creating his photo collages. He is a 2001 graduate of The University of Tennessee School of Architecture in Knoxville, Tenn. Parker’s photo collages take the same time, planning and critical decision making as architecture. Each collage starts as a sketch. Using a point-and-shoot camera, he then deliberately rotates and frames each individual photo to align with the sketch. His collages are made up of multiple photos taken over a range of time from days to months–even multiple years–all to capture multiple layers of variables allowing the viewer to experience the poetics of space. He has exhibited notably at the Newseum, AIA District Architecture Center, the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, Kosovo, and his works are sold at the National Building Museum Store.
