About Fragments
Mink states, “Fragments’ is a series of jacquard-woven ‘tapestries’ made from close-up images of a traditional overshot coverlet remnant. The original photos of the distressed and worn overshot fragments were taken using an iPhone with a small macro lens attached. The digital file was then sent to an industrial jacquard loom for weaving. Overshot coverlets are a traditional textile long associated with the Appalachian region, where I live. Changes in scale help to bring new perspective to a traditional practice presented in a contemporary version of the form.”
